Gridfinity bins, tool inserts and baseplates you can 3D print
Gridfinity is Zack Freedman's open storage system: bins on a 42 mm grid that drop into a baseplate and stack on each other, with heights in 7 mm units. A bin is 0.5 mm smaller than its cells (41.5 mm for one cell, 83.5 mm for two) and its stacking lip adds 3.8 mm on top, so a 6 unit bin is 45.8 mm tall. The designs here use buildcad's Gridfinity helper for the feet, the lip and the baseplate profile, and each page shows the sizes measured on the model.
Size a baseplate from the inside of the drawer at the bottom: the plate is half a millimetre smaller so it drops in, the largest whole grid fills it and a border takes the rest. Magnets are 6 x 2 mm discs in 6.5 x 2.4 mm pockets; put every magnet in the baseplate the same way up and fit the bins' magnets the way that pulls toward them.
For a tool insert, measure each tool with calipers: length, width and thickness. Pockets need about 0.5 mm of gap all round (0.8 mm for rubber grips) and a finger slot to lift the tool out. Before printing a batch, print one small bin and try it in your baseplate: printers differ by a few tenths of a millimetre.
